The Central government has mandated the use of the Nepali language across all telecom services in Sikkim. Issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), the directive requires telecom operators, ISPs, and VNOs to incorporate Nepali in customer care, SMS alerts, and IVRS, alongside English and Hindi. The move ensures subscribers can access services in the state’s widely spoken language. Operators must implement the changes within 30 days and submit compliance reports, with services expected in Nepali by early October 2025. The order applies to all license holders, with strict monitoring and possible regulatory action for non-compliance.
