Representing the National People’s Party (NPP), Sangma is the sole candidate after submitting his nomination, which was formally supported by Cabinet Ministers Marcuise N Marak and AT Mondal. Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma stated that the election will proceed as planned, with the official declaration contingent on any withdrawal before the deadline. The position became vacant after senior NPP leader Timothy D Shira resigned, paving the way for Limison D Sangma to assume the Assembly’s second-highest presiding office.
