| Updated On: 11-Sep-2025 @ 11:27 amMeghalaya faces a shortfall of around 67,500 government jobs, as only 2,000–2,500 positions are available annually for roughly 70,000 eligible youth, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma informed the Assembly. Currently, about 7,000 vacancies are under recruitment. To address this gap, the state launched a career counselling programme covering 25 sectors, including defence, banking, and engineering, run by the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS) through 34 centres with trained advisers. The initiative aligns with the state’s ‘Vision 2030’, mapping sector-wise job opportunities and investments, with the tourism sector alone projected to generate 54,000 jobs in coming years.
