| Updated On: 05-Nov-2025 @ 4:22 pmAssam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma led tributes to Bhupen Hazarika on his 14th death anniversary, announcing statewide celebrations of the “Bard of Brahmaputra.” Over two lakh people across Assam will sing Hazarika’s iconic “Manuhe Manuhor Babe” while forming a human chain, and the state plans to urge the UN to recognise it as a “song of humanity.” As part of his birth centenary year, the government will build a 100-foot statue near Bhupen Hazarika Setu and name one road in each district after him. Sarma also announced upcoming cultural events and memorial inaugurations to honour Hazarika’s enduring legacy.
