After Amazon, IBM announces thousands of job cuts amid ongoing tech layoff wave

IBM has announced plans to lay off thousands of employees by the end of the year, cutting a “low single-digit percentage” of its 2.7 lakh global workforce—impacting at least 2,700 jobs. The move comes amid the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) to boost efficiency. While some US roles will be affected, IBM expects overall employment there to remain steady. The decision follows similar large-scale layoffs by Amazon, which plans to cut up to 30,000 jobs. Despite the cuts, IBM reported strong earnings, with CEO Arvind Krishna crediting AI-driven automation for improved productivity and revenue growth.
