Ukraine claims over 1,400 Africans recruited by Russia to fight in the war

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said over 1,400 people from 36 African countries are fighting for Russia in its war against Ukraine, often lured by false job offers or money. He warned that most die within a month, calling the contracts “death sentences.” Several African nations, including South Africa and Kenya, confirmed citizens were deceived into joining Russian forces or working in drone factories. South Africa is investigating 17 men trapped in Ukraine, while Kenya reported citizens detained in Russian camps. Sybiha said the real number of African recruits may be higher, accusing Russia of exploiting foreign fighters through deception.
