The 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) began in Belem, Brazil, with global leaders urging united action against climate change. UN climate chief Simon Stiell emphasized urgent solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, warning that pledged reductions fall short of the 2035 target to limit warming to 1.5°C. Brazilian President Lula da Silva condemned climate denial and called for decisive action. Indigenous leader Pablo Inuma Flores stressed the need for tangible measures, not just promises. Scientists warned of accelerating ice melt and the destabilization of the cryosphere, urging that geopolitical and short-term interests should not overshadow urgent climate action.
