Assam has achieved a significant milestone in cyber security, with cybercrime cases dropping 81.2% from 4,846 in 2021 to 909 in 2023. This decline is attributed to targeted operations, awareness campaigns, digital literacy drives, faster investigation mechanisms, and better coordination between police and financial institutions. The Guwahati Cyber Forensic Lab aided real-time tracking and data recovery, facilitating arrests and deterrence. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the dual role of technology as a challenge and shield, emphasizing citizen awareness. Officials describe Assam’s effort as a “CTRL + ALT + DELETE” on cybercrime, setting a model for proactive digital governance.
