IBM Launches ‘Nighthawk’ Quantum Chip, Targets Quantum Advantage by 2026

IBM has unveiled its most advanced quantum processor, the Quantum Nighthawk, designed to achieve quantum advantage as early as next year. Revealed at the Quantum Developer Conference in New York, the chip complements high-performance quantum software and is expected to be available to users by year-end. IBM also introduced an experimental processor for quantum error correction, a faster software stack, a quantum advantage tracker, and a facility for 300mm quantum wafers. These developments aim to enable fault-tolerant quantum computing by 2029, overcoming errors caused by environmental interactions. IBM emphasizes its leadership in scaling software, hardware, fabrication, and error correction for transformative applications.
