| Updated On: 15-Nov-2025 @ 1:23 pmThe Centre has approved the export of 15 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of sugar for the 2025–26 season (October–September). The Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs issued an order allocating this quota under the Essential Commodities Act. The 15 LMT quota has been proportionally divided among sugar mills based on their average production during 2022–23 to 2024–25, with each receiving 5.286% of their three-year average output. Last year, India allowed 10 LMT of exports. Although higher than last season, the approved quota is lower than the 20 LMT requested by the Indian Sugar & Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association, which says India has a comfortable sugar balance.
