The exemptions, applied retroactively, mark a major shift from Trump’s earlier stance denying that his import duties fueled inflation. The decision follows Democratic victories in several state and local elections where affordability dominated debates. New trade frameworks with Argentina, Ecuador, Guatemala, and El Salvador are expected to further reduce tariffs once finalized. Many food products have seen double-digit price hikes, with ground beef up 13% and steaks nearly 17% compared to last year.
