Meghalaya’s Beautification Efforts Scale Up with Launch of Umpling Community Initiative

A community-driven beautification project was launched in Umpling on Wednesday as part of Meghalaya’s ongoing effort to improve neighbourhoods through resident participation. The Rs 10 lakh initiative, funded under phase three of the Locality Beautification Enhancement Project, highlights a growing trend of communities managing their own urban spaces. District Commissioner R M Kurbah praised Umpling’s unique blend of modern design and traditional cultural motifs. Local headman S F Pyngrope thanked authorities for their continued support. The programme is part of a larger state initiative that competitively funds localities with innovative proposals to enhance urban areas through grassroots involvement.
