CAIR Files Lawsuit Against Texas Governor Over ‘Unconstitutional’ Terror Label

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has filed a federal lawsuit against Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton after Abbott “falsely declared” CAIR’s Texas chapter a “foreign terrorist organisation.” The suit, filed with the Muslim Legal Fund of America, seeks to block Abbott’s designation, calling it “unconstitutional and defamatory.” CAIR cited previous legal victories against Abbott for violating the First Amendment. Founded in 1994, CAIR is the largest Muslim civil rights group in the U.S. Abbott, a strong Israel supporter, also targeted the Muslim Brotherhood, banning both groups from buying land in Texas and threatening legal action.
