The Satyagraha Movement: India’s Non-Violent Struggle

The Satyagraha Movement, led by Mahatma Gandhi, was a pioneering method of non-violent resistance against British rule in India. Based on the principles of truth (satya) and non-violence (ahimsa), it encouraged Indians to fight injustice without using force. Key campaigns included the Champaran Satyagraha (1917), Kheda Satyagraha (1918), Non-Cooperation Movement (1920–22), and the Salt March (1930). These movements mobilized millions, inspiring unity and courage. Satyagraha proved that moral strength and peaceful protest could challenge oppression, leaving a lasting legacy that influenced global civil rights movements and shaped India’s path to independence.
