Despite strong cultural ties and cooperation, disputes over border demarcation, illegal migration, cattle smuggling, and cross-border crime have often led to confrontations between the Border Security Force (BSF) of India and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). Key flashpoints include areas in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and West Bengal, where densely populated villages lie close to the boundary. Although several agreements—such as the 2015 Land Boundary Agreement—have improved relations, periodic skirmishes continue, highlighting the need for sustained dialogue and joint border management.
