The Singapore Police Force (SPF) is set to share crucial evidence, including CCTV footage and witness statements, related to the death of renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg within the next 10 days, according to a senior Assam Police official. The development marks a major step forward in the high-profile investigation that has captured widespread attention across Assam and beyond.

Special DGP (CID) and SIT Chief Munna Prasad Gupta, who recently returned from Singapore after a four-day official visit, confirmed that the SPF has assured full cooperation with Indian authorities. Gupta, accompanied by Titabor Co-District SP Tarun Goel, held detailed meetings with a five-member high-level SPF delegation and the Indian High Commissioner in Singapore. The meetings focused on the exchange of evidence, coordination of legal procedures, and ensuring timely progress in the cross-border investigation.

Gupta informed that the Assam Police team has formally requested CCTV footage from the hotel where Garg stayed and other places he visited during his time in Singapore. The SIT has also sought statements from the yacht pilot and one member of the Assam Association Singapore, both of whom are Singaporean citizens. “Their statements will be recorded through a proper legal process, and SPF officials have assured us that the documents will be shared within 10 days,” Gupta told reporters in Guwahati. He added that both sides emphasized the importance of swift and transparent cooperation to maintain the integrity of the probe.

The SPF has also indicated that it aims to conclude its own internal investigation within 90 days, aligning with the timeframe set by the Assam CID for filing its chargesheet. Gupta acknowledged that international cooperation often takes considerable time but praised the Singapore authorities for their prompt response in this case.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the CID has been leading the probe into Garg’s mysterious death, following the registration of over 60 FIRs across Assam by fans and social organizations. During their visit, the Assam Police delegation inspected the yacht hired by the Assam Association Singapore, where Garg was last seen alive, as well as other key locations linked to the case.

The team also received the initial autopsy report conducted in Singapore, which was handed over via the Indian High Commission. In Guwahati, CID officials have recorded statements from over 70 people, including Garg’s wife, Garima, and sister, Palme Borthakur, who appeared at CID headquarters last week to provide detailed testimonies.

Gupta appealed to the public to come forward with any information that could help the investigation. “If anyone has messages, chats, or any other relevant details related to Zubeen’s last days, we urge them to share it with the SIT,” he said.

Zubeen Garg tragically died under mysterious circumstances on September 19 while swimming off the coast of Singapore, where he had travelled to perform at the 4th North East India Festival. Preliminary findings from the SPF did not suggest foul play, though officials said the inquiry could continue for up to three more months.

Meanwhile, Assam Police have questioned 10 Assamese expatriates residing in Singapore who are believed to have links to the incident. Eleven individuals were reportedly present on the yacht at the time of Garg’s drowning, including members of the Assam Association Singapore.

So far, seven people — including Garg’s manager, two band members, and his cousin, DSP Sandipan Garg — have been arrested in connection with the case. Investigators also detained his two personal security officers after discovering suspicious financial transactions amounting to over ₹1.1 crore. All seven accused remain in judicial custody and face serious charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including murder, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, criminal conspiracy, and causing death by negligence.

Authorities continue to treat the case as a top priority, with both the Assam Police and Singapore authorities working closely to ensure a fair, transparent, and conclusive investigation into the singer’s untimely death.
