The event will take place at Lachit Ghat, situated along the scenic banks of the Brahmaputra River, where the skies over Guwahati will come alive with stunning aerial performances highlighting the strength, discipline, and technological capabilities of the Indian Air Force.
Announcing the Defence Minister’s visit, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the mega air show will be one of the largest ever organized in the Northeast, giving people a rare opportunity to witness India’s air power up close. He added, “On November 9, the Union Defence Minister will attend a mega Air Show at Lachit Ghat in Guwahati, wherein 150 planes of the Indian Air Force will display their strength — including Rafales, Sukhois, and MiGs.”
This landmark event forms part of the Indian Air Force’s broader Air Force Day celebrations in the Northeast, marking the first large-scale flying display of its kind ever held in the region. The event will be themed “Infallible, Impervious and Precise,” representing the IAF’s steadfast dedication to operational excellence, discipline, and precision. The aerial demonstration will feature frontline fighter aircraft, transport planes, and helicopters performing coordinated formations and manoeuvres that demonstrate the Air Force’s combat readiness and advanced capabilities.
The mega show aims not only to highlight the technological advancements and professionalism of the Indian Air Force but also to serve as a source of inspiration for the youth of Northeast India. Defence officials have said that the event is designed to encourage young people to join the armed forces, fostering a deeper sense of patriotism, courage, and national pride among citizens.
Spectators attending the show will witness aerial acrobatics, precision flying, and synchronised formations, showcasing both power and finesse. A variety of aircraft will participate, from advanced fighter jets such as Rafale, Sukhoi Su-30MKI, and MiG-29, to heavy-lift transport aircraft and versatile helicopters. The skies above Guwahati will serve as a theatre of excellence, with pilots demonstrating exceptional skill, discipline, and coordination.
To ensure public participation, special viewing areas will be set up along the Brahmaputra riverfront, allowing citizens and visitors to enjoy the rare spectacle up close. The show is expected to draw large crowds, including students, defence enthusiasts, and tourists from across the region.
Before Rajnath Singh’s arrival, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will visit Assam on November 7 and 8 to inaugurate several major infrastructure projects aimed at boosting the state’s connectivity and development. These include the Guwahati Gateway Terminal, the Guwahati Riverfront Project, and the foundation stone laying of Swahid Kanaklata Barua State University at Gohpur.
The back-to-back visits by two key Union Ministers — Nirmala Sitharaman and Rajnath Singh — underscore the Centre’s growing focus on development, defence outreach, and strategic engagement in the Northeast.
The upcoming IAF Mega Air Show at Guwahati’s Lachit Ghat will thus stand as a historic moment for the region, combining national pride with a powerful display of India’s air defence capabilities, while inspiring the next generation to contribute to the nation’s progress and security.
