| Updated On: 31-Oct-2025 @ 3:13 pmAn emotional wave swept across Assam on Friday, October 31, as thousands of fans gathered to witness the release of Roi Roi Binale, the final cinematic creation of the late music legend and actor Zubeen Garg. The day marked a historic moment in Assamese cinema, with theatres across the state overflowing with fans, some even attending special screenings as early as 4:30 a.m. — an unprecedented occurrence in the industry. For admirers, it was both a grand celebration of Zubeen’s legacy and a deeply emotional farewell to the icon who had shaped Assamese music and film for decades.
Director Rajesh Bhuyan shared that Roi Roi Binale was Zubeen Garg’s dream project — a film he had envisioned nearly 19 years ago. It was meant to be a musical masterpiece filled with songs, emotions, and gentle romance — a film that audiences could enjoy together as a collective experience. Bhuyan said, “This is the last movie in which Zubeen Da has acted. He dreamt of creating a musical film that reflected joy, emotion, and love. We’ve been part of this project for the past three years, and today, his 19-year-old dream has finally come true with a nationwide release.”
The director added that the movie is being shown in nearly 600 screenings across India, all of which are fully booked. “For the first time in Assam’s history, a film is being screened at 4:30 a.m. The response from the public has been overwhelming — it shows how much Zubeen means to us,” Bhuyan said. He recalled Zubeen’s words with both pride and sadness: “He used to say, ‘Just see how big this film will become and how it’ll break all records.’ It’s happening exactly as he said, but it’s heartbreaking that he’s not here to see it.”
Scriptwriter Rahul Gautam described Roi Roi Binale as “a reflection of Zubeen’s soul.” He explained that Zubeen was always full of positivity and optimism, spreading hope wherever he went. “This film embodies his philosophy of art, love, and resilience,” Gautam said. “He had envisioned this film almost two decades ago. I started writing it in 2022, guided by his creative ideals. This is not just a movie — it’s a celebration of the unbreakable bond between Zubeen and the people of Assam. If he were alive today, he would have scolded me a little after the premiere, but he would have been proud.”
Producer Shyamantak Gautam expressed mixed emotions, noting that while the public response was heartwarming, Zubeen’s absence left an emotional void. “Even at 4:30 a.m., when it was dark and raining in Guwahati, people waited patiently for the show to begin. That’s the kind of love Zubeen inspired. He always wanted to take Assamese cinema to the next level — and today, that dream is being realized,” he said.
According to UFO Moviez India’s General Manager, Sourav Dutta, Roi Roi Binale is the biggest-ever release in the history of Assamese cinema. The film is being screened on 91 screens across the Northeast and nearly 90 more across India, with almost all shows for the upcoming week either sold out or filling rapidly. Dutta said the emotional attachment people feel toward Zubeen is unprecedented, adding that the demand for the film has been extraordinary. To meet this soaring demand, 14 new screens are being added, with projectors installed daily.
For the first time ever, an Assamese film is reaching audiences in cities like Lucknow, Indore, Patna, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Dehradun, Darjeeling, Gangtok, Kochi, Jaipur, Surat, Ranchi, Dhanbad, Coimbatore, and Goa — places that have never before hosted Assamese cinema. There are even requests for screenings in Nepal, reflecting Zubeen Garg’s widespread influence.
Roi Roi Binale is more than a film; it is a symbol of love, legacy, and the enduring cultural spirit of Assam. It represents the fulfillment of Zubeen Garg’s artistic dream — a vision that continues to unite and inspire generations even after his passing.
