The Guwahati Traffic Police has issued an elaborate traffic advisory ahead of the Indian Air Force Day Flypast, scheduled to take place on November 9 at Lachit Ghat, Panbazar. The advisory, released by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), includes detailed information about traffic restrictions, diversions, and parking regulations to ensure public safety and smooth vehicular movement during the event. Rehearsals for the flypast will be conducted on November 5, 6, and 8, during which similar restrictions are expected to be implemented in specific areas of the city.

The advisory comes in anticipation of large public gatherings and the presence of VIPs and dignitaries, which are likely to lead to significant congestion around Lachit Ghat and adjoining areas of M.G. Road. To manage this, traffic restrictions will be enforced on November 8 and 9 between 7 AM and 5 PM. During these hours, commercial goods vehicles, heavy vehicles, and slow-moving transport such as handcarts, rickshaws, and e-rickshaws will not be permitted to ply on several key roads, including H.B. Road, A.T. Road, D.G. Road, M.G. Road, B. Baruah Road, and G.N.B. Road.

A particularly sensitive area will be the stretch of M.G. Road between Machkhowa Point and the Chief Justice’s Bungalow Point, where movement will be restricted to vehicles carrying valid car passes issued by the Indian Air Force. Only such vehicles will be allowed to operate on this stretch between 11 AM and 5 PM on both days.

To minimize disruption and ensure smooth flow, several traffic diversions will be implemented. Vehicles traveling from Bharalumukh towards Panbazar and Chandmari will be redirected via H.B. Road or A.T. Road. Conversely, vehicles moving from Chandmari towards Panbazar and Bharalumukh will have to take A.T. Road through the Panbazar Railway Overbridge (ROB). Additionally, light vehicles from Uzanbazar and Latasil heading towards Bharalumukh will be diverted through Lamb Road, F.C. Road, Tayebulla Point, and G.N.B. Road to prevent congestion near the event area.

Parking regulations will also be strictly enforced throughout the restricted zones. Vehicles with Red, Blue, and Yellow passes issued by the Indian Air Force will be allowed to park only in pre-designated areas. Parking will be completely prohibited on several major roads, including M.G. Road, F.A. Road, B.R.P. Road, M.L.N. Road, A.R.B. Road, H.B. Road, and T.R.P. Road. In addition, heavy vehicles and trucks will not be allowed to park on T.R.P. Road, Lakhi Gali, Chamber Road, S.R.C.B. Road, S.S. Road, Kedar Road, and M.S. Road during the restricted period.

The Guwahati Traffic Police has requested commuters to plan their journeys in advance, avoid restricted routes, and cooperate with traffic personnel deployed across the city to manage flow and security during the event. These measures aim to facilitate a smooth and safe conduct of the Indian Air Force Day Flypast while minimizing inconvenience to the public.

The advisory highlights the city’s readiness to host an event of national importance and underscores the importance of public cooperation in maintaining order. The Guwahati Police has also appealed to citizens to stay updated through official channels for any last-minute changes in traffic plans or emergency notifications.
