Officials confirmed the development as part of the nationwide campaign titled ‘Your Money, Your Rights’, which aims to assist citizens in reclaiming long-pending financial assets and strengthening financial literacy among the public.
The initiative is being carried out through district-level awareness and assistance camps funded under the Depositor Education and Awareness (DEA) Fund. These camps are designed to provide financial guidance, support with documentation, and assistance in recovering unclaimed deposits, insurance payouts, and mutual fund returns. The campaign will continue across Assam until December 31, ensuring that more citizens can access help to reclaim their rightful dues.
As part of the campaign’s fourth phase, held on Friday, special camps were organized in both Kamrup Metropolitan and Kamrup districts. These camps focused on enhancing financial awareness among citizens and guiding depositors through the technical and procedural aspects of retrieving forgotten or unclaimed financial assets. In Kamrup Metropolitan district, the camp was organized by UCO Bank, the designated Lead Bank, under the supervision of the District Collector and the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC), Assam. In Kamrup district, the event was carried out under the leadership of Yuva Vikash Kendra, Amingaon.
To ensure that citizens received effective support, multiple assistance counters were set up at the camps. These counters provided guidance on verifying identity details, completing KYC formalities, and understanding the required documentation for retrieving unclaimed deposits. Representatives from different banks and financial institutions participated in the camps, offering on-the-spot assistance and verification services to streamline the settlement process.
The outcome of these efforts was notably significant. According to officials, Kamrup Metropolitan district recorded a settlement of ₹511.05 lakh for 327 depositors, while Kamrup district registered settlements amounting to ₹89.59 lakh across 177 accounts. Combined, the two districts accounted for more than ₹600 lakh in recovered financial assets, directly benefiting families who had long forgotten or were unaware of their dues.
Officials emphasized that the campaign is not limited to asset recovery but also serves an important role in promoting financial empowerment. It helps citizens understand their financial rights and highlights the importance of maintaining updated banking information, including accurate KYC records. Many depositors remain unaware of dormant accounts, lapsed insurance policies, or unclaimed mutual fund units, and these camps aim to bridge that knowledge gap.
Overall, the initiative demonstrates a proactive effort by the government, financial institutions, and local organizations to ensure transparency, accessibility, and financial well-being for the public. By continuing the campaign across Assam until the end of the year, authorities hope to help many more citizens reclaim their financial assets and strengthen the culture of responsible financial management in the state.
