The Arunachal Pradesh State Cooperative Union (APSCU) is preparing to celebrate its grand Golden Jubilee, marking 50 years of the cooperative movement’s growth, evolution, and contribution to the state’s socio-economic development. This landmark celebration reflects the cooperative sector’s role in empowering rural communities, promoting self-reliance, and strengthening grassroots economic structures across Arunachal Pradesh since its inception.

The Golden Jubilee event is themed “Strengthening the Cooperative Movement in Arunachal Pradesh”, emphasising the need to enhance the cooperative ecosystem, improve coordination among cooperative bodies, and chart a progressive roadmap for the future. The celebration will take place at Indira Gandhi Park, a central and symbolic venue for major state events. The programme will be led by APSCU Chairman Nabam Tahi Nekhil, with Ojing Tasing, Minister for Cooperation, serving as Chief Patron and playing a key role in guiding the organisational responsibilities.

One of the key highlights of the Golden Jubilee is its massive participation. Over 1,500 cooperative societies from across the state are set to join the celebration, showcasing the wide network and influence of the cooperative movement. These include District Cooperative Societies, LAMPs (Large-sized Adivasi Multipurpose Societies), Federal Cooperative Societies, Primary Cooperative Societies, and institutions under the Department of Cooperation. National-level cooperative-supporting agencies such as NCDC (National Cooperative Development Corporation) and NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development) will also be part of the event, reflecting the strong collaboration between state and national cooperative bodies.

The Jubilee will be celebrated under the slogan “Chalo Gaon Ki Aur – Hum Banayenge Sahkarita Viksit”, which underscores a renewed focus on rural development, village-level economic empowerment, and inclusive growth through cooperative initiatives. The slogan captures the spirit of community-driven development that cooperatives stand for.

The state’s Chief Minister, Pema Khandu, will grace the main function on 20 November, signaling the government’s commitment to strengthening the cooperative sector. Ahead of the main event, Minister Ojing Tasing will address attendees, highlighting the achievements of the movement and outlining future priorities.

As a curtain-raiser to the celebration, a Unity Marathon has been scheduled for the day before the main event. The marathon will begin at 6 a.m. from Gohpur and conclude at Indira Gandhi Park. Its objective is to bring together cooperative members, youth, students, and the general public in a show of unity, solidarity, and shared dedication to the cooperative vision. The run symbolises collective progress and the spirit of togetherness, values central to the cooperative movement.

Chairman Nabam Tahi Nekhil has appealed to the people of Arunachal Pradesh to participate wholeheartedly in this historic occasion. He emphasised that the Golden Jubilee is not merely a celebration but a tribute to the cooperative spirit that has uplifted thousands of households, strengthened livelihoods, and fostered socio-economic empowerment across the state. For many rural communities, cooperatives have served as a foundation for financial independence, sustainable development, and community resilience.

In essence, the Golden Jubilee celebration represents both a milestone and a new beginning for APSCU. It honours five decades of progress while reaffirming the commitment to building a stronger, more vibrant cooperative movement for the future.
